Durante
el Congreso Mundial de Parkinson se
va a celebrar un Symposium sobre “Demencia
asociada a enfermedad de Parkinson y
demencia de cuerpos de Lewy”.
The
World Parkinson Congress invites healthcare
professionals, along with patients and
caregivers, to attend the "PDD/DLB
at the Crossroads" free symposium
preceding the World Parkinson Congress.
The purpose of this meeting is to thoroughly
examine the basic and clinical aspects
of the dementias associated with Parkinson's
disease (PDD) and the entity that has
become known as Dementia with Lewy Bodies
(DLB).
The
discovery of alpha-synuclein in 1997
has brought PDD and DLB close together
on the same clinico-pathologic spectrum
of neurodegeneration, and it is the
extent of this connectivity that the
invited experts will address in two
days of lecture and interactive discussion.
The speakers will define areas of agreement
and controversy with the goal of reaching
a unifying consensus on pathobiology
and the boundaries of clinical diagnosis
of the two disorders. Attendees will
have the opportunity to participate
in breakout discussion groups. The closing
remarks at the end of day two will bring
all points of view together for a spirited
attempt to bridge any gaps and to define
those areas that need further debate
and research.
