Workshop description
     Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a common disorder that is under diagnosed. This course will provide the participants with information on RLS epidemiology, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, and treatment. Using lectures, case–based discussions and video examples of clinical phenomena, this course will focus on the clinical features of restless legs syndrome and provide the clinician with diagnostic criteria, differential diagnosis, and describe sleep phenomena such as periodic limb movements.

Learning objectives
     At the conclusion of this workshop, participants should be able to:
  - Describe the clinical features and diagnostic criteria for RLS and periodic limb movements;
- Differentiate between the clinical diagnosis of RLS and sleep phenomenon such as PLMS;
- Discuss the assumed pathophysiological mechanisms proposed to underlie RLS;
- Describe the diagnostic workup for RLS;
- Describe secondary forms of RLS including the role of iron;
- List the therapeutic approaches to RLS with the advantages and disadvantages of each;
- Discuss augmentation and rebound;
- Discuss the selection of pharmacological agents for selected cases of RLS;
- Discuss treatment issues in special populations such as in pregnancy or in uremia.

Recommended audience
     This course is recommended for neurologists, Movement Disorders specialists and fellows, sleep specialists, and primary care physicians with an interest in RLS.
